U.S. Army Aviation 1956-1962
The U.S. Army was allowed to possess some aircraft after the establishment of the U.S. Air Force in 1947. They were operated under their existing Air Force and Navy designations. In 1956, the Army started its own designation system that continued in use until 1963.
